Google Rumoured to Release YouTube Premium Lite
YouTube is reportedly planning to launch a more affordable “Premium Lite” subscription for its streaming service, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The new tier is targeting users who are more interested in non-music video content such as vlogs, video essays, exercise videos, tutorials, game playthroughs, podcasts, and more.
Although the exact pricing has not been disclosed, YouTube previously tested a Premium Lite subscription in select countries between 2021 and 2023. The Verge reported that a user in Australia mentioned the plan included some ads and was priced at 8.99 AUD, half the cost of a regular Premium membership.
The Premium Lite plan is expected to launch initially in the US, Australia, Germany, and Thailand, with no information on a UK release yet.
If the pricing model follows that of Australia (half the cost of the standard subscription), it could be around $7 per month in the US and approximately £6.50 per month in the UK.
