Good news, the 90s version of the original Resident Evil is now easily grabbable on modern PCs, with 2 and 3 set to follow soon

If you’ve been eager to play the original 90s version of the game that started the Resident Evil series by giving us a live-action intro that’s so entrenched in that decade it feels like listening to Aqua’s Barbie Girl while playing pick-up ball with prime Michael Jordan, you’re in luck.

The PC port of the original Resident Evil from 1996, which has been hard to find in a format that allows easy play on a modern PC as it’s not on Steam, has now been re-released by Capcom through a storefront specializing in classic games.

You can now find the original PC version of Resident Evil on GOG.com for £8.99 / $9.99. It has been updated to work smoothly on Windows 10 and 11, with minimal tweaks to maintain the original experience.

The enhancements include new rendering options, improved cutscene timing, and full support for modern controllers like PlayStation and Xbox for those who prefer not to use a mouse and keyboard.

In addition, the original PC versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 will be available on the store by the end of 2024, with a bundle featuring all three games already available for pre-purchase at £20.99/$24.99.

If you finish the first Resident Evil quickly, GOG has also uploaded the iconic live-action intro to YouTube for daily viewing until the sequels are released. The video is just under four minutes long, so you could watch it approximately 15 times in an hour or 360 times in a 24-hour marathon. I know I will be!
