Good news culture lovers, a Minecraft YouTuber is hopping on Classic FM to blast banging choons from Skyrim, Street Fighter, and more

Are you a fan of classical music? Is your life like a beautiful symphony with violins, pianos, and the occasional tuba playing in the background? Do you dream of hearing tunes from the Elder Scrolls on a radio station that your grandparents would listen to?

If you answered yes to the last question, you’re in luck! UK radio station Classic FM has enlisted Minecraft YouTuber DanTDM to host a series on video game music called Next Level with DanTDM. The title definitely gives off a video game show vibe.

Classic FM announced today that DanTDM, whose real name is Daniel Middleton, will kick off the series this Saturday, January 11, with an hour-long first episode airing at 9PM GMT.

The first episode will feature Middleton playing tunes from legendary soundtracks such as The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy VII, Skyrim, and Street Fighter II. Of course, there will also be some Minecraft music because, well, Minecraft.

You can listen to the series every Saturday evening until Easter through Classic FM’s app – Global Player – or by tuning in to the radio station. For an extra nostalgic touch, dust off that old wireless radio from the attic for bonus points.

“Teenage me wouldn’t be able to believe I have my own radio show,” said Middleton. “Having studied music production at university and then worked in video games for the past 15 years, being given a show that celebrates the meeting of these two worlds feels totally surreal.”

Classic FM managing editor Philip Noyce, with an even more Classic FM-like name, added, “Across three months, he will not only showcase the greatest video game music to our loyal listeners, but with Dan at the controls, we’re looking forward to welcoming VGM fans to Classic FM for the first time too. We have always championed new forms of classical music, from film scores to gaming soundtracks, so I’m pleased to announce this next chapter in our support of video game music.”

As Noyce mentioned, this isn’t the station’s first venture into game music, as they have previously hosted High Score, the UK’s first radio series dedicated to game soundtracks. Middleton’s show sounds like a must-listen, especially if you’re eagerly awaiting the release of the Minecraft Movie.
