Attention Popstars, stay clear of the closing doors.
Chappell Roan released “The Subway,” her second single from an upcoming album on July 31. The album does not have a title or release date yet.
The track is a four-minute moody ode to a potential crush or past love, describing a person with green hair and a beauty mark spotted on the train. The evocative lyrics reveal Roan’s inner thoughts and emotions.
The sound of the song combines Roan’s voice with Dan Nigro’s production, reminiscent of late-’80s and early-’90s alt-pop icons like ‘Til Tuesday, 10,000 Maniacs, and Tori Amos.
The track is a heartfelt, melancholic bop. Expect to hear it live during Roan’s ‘Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things’ pop-up concert series in September and October.
Roan will be performing at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens for four nights in September. Tickets will be on sale in early August through sites like Vivid Seats.
Roan will also be performing at various festivals before her tour, including the Reading Festival and Leeds Festival in the UK. Check out her festival appearances for more details.

In “The Subway,” a wild party erupts on a Queens-bound train, showcasing the ultimate in showmanship.
