FuRyu announces new school life RPG Varlet

Japanese developer FuRyu has unveiled Varlet, a captivating school life RPG set to release on various platforms.

Varlet is currently in the works for Windows PC (available on Steam and the Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch, and PS5, with a global launch scheduled for August 28th.

Step into the world of Kousei Academy, the pioneering institution to introduce the cross-reality virtual reality network “Johari”, utilized for various purposes ranging from basic information retrieval and shopping to social networking and communication. The widespread use of this app has sparked a surge in users seeking validation and attention from peers, leading to the emergence of an eerie urban legend about individuals vanishing into mysterious “Glitches” if their desires intensify. To make matters worse, rumors circulate about monstrous beings dwelling within these “Glitches”, replacing unsuspecting users in the real world without anyone noticing.

The protagonist uncovers the chilling reality behind this urban legend as some students fall victim to these monsters, prompting them to take a stand. As a member of the Student Support Services (SSS), a guild dedicated to resolving the academy’s challenges, players must guide their comrades, forge bonds, and battle to safeguard the school from impending catastrophe. However, navigating these relationships presents its own set of challenges – forming close connections with multiple individuals may lead to unforeseen consequences.

Central to Varlet’s gameplay is its dynamic Triad Stats system, shaping character development based on player decisions. These six distinct attributes are divided into Light and Dark Triad traits, influencing dialogue choices and passive combat abilities. Light Triad stats emphasize ethics, empathy, and selflessness, while Dark Triad stats delve into Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism. Players will define their true nature, either as an inspiring leader who uplifts and supports allies in battle or as a formidable ruler wielding immense power at a personal cost.
