Fortnite is taking a surprising turn with the introduction of a new 5v5 FPS mode called Ballistic, set to launch on December 11th across all platforms. This mode is aimed at offering a round-based competitive shooter experience, similar to Counter-Strike, where two teams compete to achieve objectives and eliminate opponents.

In Ballistic, players will take turns attacking and defending, with the attackers trying to plant a Rift Point Device at designated sites on the map while defenders aim to prevent them or defuse the device. The first team to win 7 rounds emerges victorious, with roles switching between attackers and defenders every 6 rounds. Players will have access to a starting weapon and credits to purchase additional gear between rounds.

This new mode marks a significant departure from Fortnite’s traditional Battle Royale gameplay, showcasing Epic’s commitment to expanding the game’s offerings and exploring new genres within the Fortnite universe. As part of Epic’s long-term goal of creating a metaverse of online gaming experiences, Ballistic joins a growing list of diverse game modes and collaborations introduced in Fortnite over the years.

With the addition of Ballistic, Fortnite continues to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of competitive shooters, following in the footsteps of other popular titles like Apex Legends, which have also incorporated traditional game modes alongside their core gameplay.

Stay tuned for updates on Ballistic as Epic gathers feedback and continues to refine the mode based on player input and preferences.
