Following Yuzu shutdown, Nintendo casually swats over 8,500 copies of the Switch emulator in one go

Nintendo successfully took down 8,535 GitHub repositories containing code from the Switch emulator Yuzu with a single DMCA notice. Following a settlement with Tropic Haze, the company behind the emulator, the process of removing any clones or copies from the internet is underway.

For those unaware, Nintendo’s legal action against Yuzu’s creators earlier this year led to a favorable decision for the company. Tropic Haze had to pay Nintendo $2.4 million and was prohibited from offering or promoting Yuzu or its source code, resulting in the emulator being discontinued immediately.

TorrentFreak reported that Nintendo filed a DMCA notice with GitHub earlier this week, resulting in the removal of many Yuzu repositories. Initially targeting over 100 repositories, Nintendo claimed that the emulator circumvented their protection measures and ran illegal copies of Switch games, leading to the takedown of 8,535 repositories.

GitHub explained that due to the large network of repositories containing infringing content, the takedown notice affected all 8,535 repositories. GitHub has since reached out to the repository owners to provide information on submitting a DMCA Counter Notice and offering legal resources.

In related news, Discord recently banned developers of other Nintendo Switch emulators last month.
