Finnair cancels 300 December flights over pilot strike, BA
Finnish carrier Finnair announced the cancellation of approximately 300 flights on December 9 and 13, affecting 33,000 passengers, due to a pilot strike initiated over stalled contract negotiations. The Finnish Pilots’ Association (FPA) has been engaged in discussions with the employers’ organization Palta for three months regarding working conditions outlined in a collective wage agreement.
Earlier this week, the FPA declared an impasse in negotiations and declared partial work stoppages on the specified days in December. Finnair indicated that flights on the days before and after may also face disruptions.
“It is regrettable that the Finnish Pilots’ Association has opted for a strike instead of continuing negotiations. This decision unfortunately impacts the travel arrangements of numerous customers during the pre-Christmas period,” stated Finnair.
