Final Fantasy XVI and God of War Ragnarok arrive on PC this week, DLSS and other performance details shared
Summary: Two major PlayStation 5 exclusives are making their way to PC this week, with Sony, Nvidia, and others releasing additional information on the supported features of the ports, including some surprising omissions.
Final Fantasy XVI has now been released on Steam and the Epic Games store, while God of War Ragnarok is set to launch on Thursday, September 19. Sony has provided a detailed overview of Ragnarok’s PC feature set, and modders have already begun enhancing the functionality of Final Fantasy.
In August, Sony unveiled the system requirements for Ragnarok, which are similar to its 2018 predecessor, except for the hefty demand for 190 GB of SSD space. Additionally, the company announced new features for the PC version, such as the ability to reduce puzzle hints frequency and audio descriptions for cinematic events, addressing player feedback.
Players should be aware that Ragnarok requires a PlayStation Network login even on PC, as Sony continues to integrate PSN features like trophies and overlays into PC gaming. Nvidia has also shared benchmarks showcasing the performance of their RTX 4000 GPUs and DLSS 3 frame generation with Ragnarok, achieving impressive frame rates at 4K resolution.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XVI’s demo has given players a glimpse of its performance, with the final release requiring 170 GB of storage space. Nvidia highlighted the performance of mid-range and high-end RTX 4000 cards, which deliver excellent frame rates in 4K with super-resolution and frame generation enabled. Square Enix’s RPG does not support ultrawide aspect ratios or FOV adjustments on PC, but a mod called FFXVIFix has been created to address these limitations.
Nvidia also mentioned an enhanced version of Capcom’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, launching with DLSS 3 support on Thursday. Overall, the influx of PlayStation exclusives to PC is opening up new possibilities for gaming enthusiasts.
