Fatal fire in Scarborough neighbourhood considered ‘suspicious’ by police - Toronto

Authorities are investigating a suspicious early morning fire at a Scarborough restaurant that has resulted in one fatality.

The incident took place at Molon Lavender Taverna on Kennedy Road near Lawrence Avenue E around 1:49 a.m. on Saturday.

Emergency services, including Toronto Fire, police, and paramedics, responded to the scene. Following the extinguishing of the fire, firefighters discovered a deceased male inside the building.

According to Laurie McCann, a media relations officer with the Toronto police, “The fire is considered suspicious at this time, but the Fire Marshal’s office has taken over the investigation.”

McCann stated that the fire was confined to the restaurant itself and did not affect neighboring businesses.
