Epic CEO Says “no plans currently” for 'Fortnite' on Quest, But Doesn’t Rule It Out Entirely

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has stated that the popular battle royale game Fortnite currently has no plans to come to the Quest platform, although he has not completely ruled it out in the future.

In response to a user named ‘TheoryDecrypt’, Sweeney mentioned the challenges of bringing Fortnite to VR due to the need for a large player base across all platforms and the potential discomfort that VR locomotion mechanics could cause. He emphasized the importance of finding the right balance to ensure a successful VR adaptation of the game.

This isn’t the first time Sweeney has expressed his reservations about bringing Fortnite to VR. In a previous interview with The Verge in 2022, he mentioned that the fast-paced nature of the game may not translate well to a VR experience.

While Sweeney’s concerns about VR comfort may seem somewhat outdated in 2024, with advancements in comfort options in modern VR games, he may have valid points about the fundamental differences between VR and traditional gaming experiences. VR gameplay offers unique advantages and challenges that may not align with the core mechanics of Fortnite.

Despite the potential obstacles, Sweeney’s stance on VR comfort could evolve in the future. Perhaps with further exploration of VR technology and user feedback, a VR adaptation of Fortnite could become a possibility.
