Enshrouded's "largest update so far" is out with a new mountain region, pets and single-player pausing

Enshrouded has just received its most significant update yet, courtesy of developers Keen Games. The update introduces a new playable area known as the Alabaneve Summits, complete with new enemies, resources, friendly wildlife, and quests. Players can now reach a maximum character level of 35 and discover new townsfolk to interact with and house in their humble abodes. Additionally, players can now tame animals and provide shelter for them – albeit in poorly built houses. Be prepared to face hypothermia in this challenging survival game.

In addition to the new content, players can experience the initial implementation of a dynamic weather system, with sudden snowfall posing a threat to body heat in the new biome. This update brings a wealth of changes to the game initially praised for its strong foundation in building mechanics. The combat system has been enhanced, quality-of-life improvements have been made, and the abundance of fog has been purposefully reduced. Highlighted changes in the full changelog include new grappling hook skills that allow players to pull airborne foes into melee range or propel themselves towards larger enemies, reminiscent of Bionic Commando. Gliding has been made more challenging with the introduction of air turbulence affecting flight paths, although players have the option to disable this feature. Single-player pause functionality has been added, and the leveling curve has been adjusted to prevent early maxing out.

An enticing addition for players is the improved behavior of recruitable characters for homesteads. These characters now have a day-night cycle where they explore, take breaks, interact with points of interest, converse with the player, and sleep at night – even if it means sleeping on the floor. However, players may start feeling guilty about their living conditions.

Enshrouded is set to leave early access in 2025. For a detailed overview of the game’s evolution since January and future plans, developers have provided a roadmap for players to explore.
