Dune: Awakening's new trailer details how its map changes every week, which sounds awful for cartographers

I understand that the allure of Dune’s Arrakis lies in the abundance of spice it contains, but personally, the presence of giant sandworms is a bit of a deterrent for me. Nevertheless, Dune: Awakening seems intriguing despite this constant threat, and a recent trailer focusing on exploring the desert planet has further captured my interest. The desert bike featured in the trailer caught my eye, reminiscent of the enjoyment I experienced in Sable while traversing beautiful sandy landscapes. Although Dune: Awakening’s world is more hostile, it still promises an exciting adventure.

I appreciate the incorporation of climbing mechanics inspired by Breath of the Wild, allowing players to scale cliffs effortlessly. Once at the summit, players can scan the environment to unveil nearby locations on the map, such as shipwrecks or abandoned testing stations—a common feature seen in Ubisoft games. What sets Dune: Awakening apart are the coriolis storms.

Typically, storms in video games obstruct visibility, impede progress, or affect visibility in combat scenarios. However, Dune: Awakening’s coriolis storms dynamically alter the map every week. As an online survival game, this feature ensures that players return each week for fresh challenges, although it may pose difficulties for mapmakers.

While the game is set to release on May 20th, players can already create their characters in advance. This provides ample time to craft a unique sci-fi persona or a bizarre creation to share on social media for some attention.
