Draisaitl paces Edmonton Oilers to 4-2 win over Calgary Flames with goal, two assists - Edmonton

Leon Draisaitl led the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames with a goal and two assists. The game saw Zach Hyman, Jeff Skinner, and Mattias Janmark scoring for the Oilers, who have been performing well in recent games despite missing their captain, Connor McDavid, due to an ankle injury. Stuart Skinner, the Oilers’ goalie, made 29 saves to secure the win.

“Very similar to the first game in Edmonton,” Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch commented on the team’s performance. “We came out strong in the first period and then as the game wore on I thought Calgary had a lot of opportunities, a lot of push. We hung in there — a key penalty-kill at the end of the game, some blocked shots; especially Rico there at the end. Fortunately, our power-play came through and gave us the winning goal, but I thought we took our foot off the gas.”

Calgary’s goals came from Anthony Mantha and Yegor Sharangovich, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Oilers’ strong play. Calgary goaltender Dan Vladar made 27 saves in the game.

Draisaitl, Hyman, and Skinner were instrumental in the Oilers’ victory, with Hyman highlighting Skinner’s performance in goal. The Oilers’ lone game at the Saddledome this season was played without McDavid, who is expected to return to the lineup later this month.

The Oilers and Flames are tied in the NHL’s Battle of Alberta this season, with one game remaining between the two teams. The key takeaways from the game included the Oilers’ speed and strong power-play performance, while a too-many-men penalty hurt the Flames’ chances of a comeback.

Looking ahead, the Oilers will face the New Jersey Devils in a back-to-back game, while the Flames will start a three-game road trip against the Montreal Canadiens.

Overall, the game was a display of solid teamwork and individual performances from the Oilers, securing them another important win in the season.
