DOGE reportedly planning a hackathon to build ‘mega API’ for IRS data
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is set to host a hackathon next week with a focus on developing a “mega API” for accessing taxpayer data, as reported by Wired.
The hackathon is being coordinated by two DOGE employees at the Internal Revenue Service, Gavin Kilger and Sam Corcos, who is also the CEO of healthtech startup Levels. Corcos aims to create a comprehensive API that streamlines access to IRS data.
The proposed API would allow cloud providers to retrieve taxpayer information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, tax returns, and employment details for export to external systems. Wired mentions the involvement of a third-party vendor in the project, with Palantir frequently mentioned as a potential partner.
An anonymous IRS employee expressed concerns to Wired, stating that the project could potentially expose Americans’ sensitive information without the usual security protocols in place.
