Disco Samurai is a brutally difficult and brilliant Sekiro-like rhythm slasher

Disco Samurai is a challenging game that kept me hooked due to its incorporation of my favorite action game elements. From intense duels to a blend of brutal violence and humor, precise parrying and striking, and short stages that provide quick hits of progress and setbacks, this game excels in rhythm combat. It’s tough but also has a sense of rhythm.

In the time it takes to read this, you could download the Steam demo and improve your skills by about 4%. That 4% will be crucial.

Unlike other rhythm combat games, missing the beat in Disco Samurai doesn’t penalize your score; it simply prevents you from attacking. The music features crunchy 4/4 techno beats, making it easy to follow. Parrying works similarly, requiring on-beat deflections to succeed, with visual indicators to help. Each enemy has a stamina meter, and successful parries and attacks reduce it until they are stunned.

If you prefer to avoid combat, you can dash on the beat instead. However, dodging doesn’t affect the enemy’s stamina meter. As you perform actions, you’ll build a flow meter, unlocking the ability to use a gun or perform powerful kicks by spending flow. These additional moves add depth to the combat and can be strategically incorporated into your gameplay.

Mistakes in the game can lead to quick deaths, especially from overhead attacks that require precise timing to parry. Overcoming these challenges while maintaining a flow of combat is key to success in Disco Samurai. The game strikes a balance between difficulty and satisfaction, keeping players engaged and challenged.

Disco Samurai offers a unique take on rhythm combat, providing engaging gameplay that encourages players to master the art of sword fighting. The blend of rhythm and danger creates a captivating experience that keeps players on their toes. With its challenging yet rewarding gameplay, this game strikes the perfect balance between samurai action and disco vibes.
