Direct Tashkent-Mopa flights to begin from Oct 27, ET TravelWorld News, ET TravelWorld

Uzbekistan Airways on Thursday announced the commencement of direct flights from Tashkent to Goa, twice a week from Oct 27. Uzbekistan Airways will operate an Airbus A320 Neo aircraft to connect Tashkent to the Manohar International Airport, Mopa, which will benefit charter tourists and boost cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and Goa.

The airline’s announcement to shift operations to Manohar International Airport comes after TUI and Aeroflot announced that they would shift their charter operations to Mopa. The introduction of these flights comes after consistent follow-ups with the Uzbekistan embassy and tour operators, and with crucial support from the Indian embassy in Tashkent.

“Introduction of direct flights from Tashkent to Goa marks a significant milestone in enhancing Goa’s connectivity with central Asia. This new connection will not only boost tourism but also strengthen our cultural ties with Uzbekistan,” said tourism minister Rohan Khaunte. He also said govt is committed to developing Goa into a well-connected and accessible destination for travellers worldwide.

Incidentally, Goa Tourism will also be participating in the upcoming Tashkent International Tourism Fair. “Uzbekistan Airways’ decision to commence flights to Goa underscores the growing global interest in our state as a prime tourism destination. This direct connectivity will undoubtedly enhance the travel experience for visitors from Uzbekistan, making Goa more accessible and inviting,” said director for tourism Suneel Anchipaka.

Charter flights to Goa are set to commence from Oct 2, with Aeroflot opening the season. Goa’s tourism department is optimistic that the new international route will meet the state’s broader strategy to diversify its tourist base and promote Goa as a year-round destination.
