Deus Ex's Randomizer mod now lets you pet the dogs and cats

It is often said that every time Deus Ex is mentioned, someone ends up reinstalling it. If you are a reader of RPS, you may have reinstalled Deus Ex approximately six hundred times by now.

This is where the comprehensive Randomizer mod comes into play, as it remixes the levels of this immersive sim game to provide a fresh experience each time. The mod has recently received a major update which includes the ability to interact with the game’s dogs and cats.

While the trend of petting animals in video games may be overdone, the Randomizer mod is worth mentioning. Check out the trailer for the latest version:

The Randomizer mod allows you to randomize almost every interactive element in a Deus Ex level, such as enemies, passwords, repair bots, starting locations, weapon stats, and augmentations. Players have the flexibility to tweak these randomizations and adjust other settings like difficulty levels.

You might be wondering how petting animals ties into randomization. In addition to enhancing the base game, the Randomizer mod includes quality-of-life improvements like password auto-fill, an aug selection wheel, and a speedrun mode. Some of these enhancements, particularly those that reduce reliance on a keyboard, make the game more enjoyable to play on Steam Deck.
