Derek Jeter rips Aaron Boone for costly Yankees decision

Mr. November Criticizes Aaron Boone’s Decision

In late October, Mr. November expressed his dissatisfaction with a move made by Aaron Boone.

Boone decided to pull Gerrit Cole in the seventh inning, despite the pitcher’s strong performance of giving up only four hits and one run on 88 pitches. This decision came after Cole allowed a leadoff single to Teoscar Hernandez.

During Fox’s World Series postgame show, Jeter openly criticized Boone’s decision, referencing a past experience with pitcher Al Leiter in 2000 and the importance of leaving a dominating pitcher like Cole in the game.

Jeter and Boone were former teammates on the Yankees in 2003, a year remembered for Boone’s walkoff home run against the Red Sox in Game 7 of the ALCS.

One of the immediate consequences of pulling Cole early was that the Yankees ran out of pitchers, using Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, and Luke Weaver in later innings.

The game extended to extra innings, where Boone’s decision to bring in Jake Cousins led to a walk-off grand slam by Freddie Freeman, resulting in a 6-3 win for the Dodgers.

Boone defended his decision by stating that he felt Cole was getting tired towards the end of his performance.
