Delta Force's free Black Hawk Down shooter campaign mode is out now

Team Jade and TiMi Studio Group have recently launched a free downloadable co-op campaign for their multiplayer shooter Delta Force, which was released in 2024. This marks the first new Delta Force game since 2004. The co-op campaign, inspired by the Ridley Scott film Black Hawk Down, is designed for a squad of four players, but it can also be played solo for those looking for a challenge. Currently, the game only supports mouse and keyboard, but controller support will be added in a future update.

The Black Hawk Down movie, released in 2001, is based on Mark Bowden’s book about the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia. This battle was a confrontation between Somali National Alliance forces and United States troops who were part of a United Nations intervention during the Somali Civil War.

The game’s campaign consists of seven chapters, starting with a mission to abduct SNA lieutenants and progressing to escorting rescue convoys for downed helicopter crews. The game incorporates input from Revolution Studio, one of the movie’s production companies.

This is not the first time a Delta Force game has tackled the story of Black Hawk Down. In 2003, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down drew inspiration directly from Bowden’s book, bypassing Ridley Scott’s involvement. The Battle of Mogadishu remains a significant event in US history, immortalized in various books and films. In 2013, parts of the crashed US helicopters were recovered and turned into a museum exhibit. Now, a team from China is adapting the story for a new gaming experience.

The Somali Civil War, which began in the early 1990s, continues to this day. A recent BBC article highlighted the experiences of Somali individuals who witnessed the storming and bombing of their homes by US troops. Many survivors still seek reparations for the harm caused.
