Delhi airport achieves historic milestone, connecting 150 global destinations, ET TravelWorld

Delhi Airport has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first airport in India to connect 150 destinations, further solidifying its position as a prominent global aviation hub. This accomplishment underscores the airport’s commitment to expanding its destination network, enhancing operational efficiency, and improving connectivity for passengers. The 150th destination is Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK), with Thai AirAsia X inaugurating direct flights on Sunday. Initially operating twice weekly, the frequency will increase to four flights per week by mid-January 2025, utilizing Airbus A330 aircraft.

Delhi Airport’s expansion encompasses over 20 exclusive international destinations, including Phnom Penh, Bali Denpasar, Calgary, Montreal, and Tokyo Haneda. The airport has witnessed a 100% increase in transfer passengers over the past decade, establishing itself as a major transit hub in South Asia. Significantly, Delhi serves 88% of long-haul destinations from India, with 56% of the country’s weekly long-haul flights departing from here. Nearly 50% of long-haul passengers from India now utilize Delhi Airport as their primary gateway.

The airport is also a frontrunner in domestic-international connectivity, facilitating seamless connections for four million domestic passengers annually to international destinations. With the expanding fleet of wide-body aircraft by Indian carriers, Delhi is set to become a key superconnector for long-haul travel. CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar remarked, “This milestone of connecting 150 destinations is a testament to our steadfast commitment to enhancing global connectivity and providing top-notch travel experiences.” Delhi Airport continues to establish benchmarks in aviation excellence, aligning with its vision of becoming a premier hub for global travelers.
