Dark Outlaw Games is Sony’s new first party PlayStation studio

Sony has established a new first-party studio, Dark Outlaw Games, to create new PlayStation games. The studio is led by Jason Blundell, who has a background in working on Call of Duty games at Activision, eventually becoming a game director. After leaving Treyarch in 2020, Blundell founded Deviation Games in 2021 but left in 2022, leading to the studio’s closure in 2024.

During an interview with Jeff Gertsmann, Jason expressed his excitement about working with Sony as a new first-party studio, stating, “It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio. Sony doesn’t set up first-party studios all the time. To have that privilege is humbling, it’s really nice. I’m really excited.”

Dark Outlaw Games is currently working on a new project, although no details have been disclosed about the game. Given Jason Blundell’s experience with Call of Duty, it is possible that the project could be a first-person shooter or an action game. Fans will have to wait for Sony and Dark Outlaw Games to unveil more information about the game, and no release window has been hinted at thus far.
