Could Saquon Barkley actually win NFL MVP? Oddsmakers suggest yes
Saquon Barkley has seen a significant rise in MVP odds rankings following his career-best performance on “Sunday Night Football.”
The former Giant and Eagles star running back now has odds of +500 to win the NFL MVP award at DraftKings, a significant increase from the 75/1 odds he had at FanDuel early last week.
He currently sits behind only Bills quarterback Josh Allen (+150) and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+250).
Barkley had an outstanding game against the Rams, accumulating 302 total yards and two touchdowns during the Eagles’ 37-20 victory.
The former No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft, Barkley signed with the Eagles in free agency and is set to earn $13.5 million this season, with the potential to earn an additional $3 million based on his performances.
Barkley’s standout performance also boosted his odds of winning Offensive Player of the Year from +120 on BetMGM to clear favorite status at -300 odds.
He was previously in a close race with fellow free-agent acquisition, Ravens running back Derrick Henry.
Barkley is currently projected to run for 2,151 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, which would break the all-time single-season rushing record.
Only eight players have run for 2,000-plus yards in a season, with the most recent being Henry in 2020.
Eric Dickerson holds the record for rushing yards with 2,105 yards in 1984.
The movement in MVP odds coincides with Doug Kezirian of The Post recommending readers to bet on Barkley to win the NFL MVP award at 75/1 odds.
While Barkley winning the award would be against recent history, his exceptional performances could make him a strong contender.
Betting on the NFL?
A running back hasn’t won the NFL MVP award since 2012, when Adrian Peterson claimed the title after a remarkable season with 2,097 rushing yards.
If Barkley continues to excel in Philadelphia, he could be a compelling candidate for the MVP award.
Why Trust New York Post Betting
Erich Richter may be a Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt, but he’s a black belt in MMA betting. He has shown significant profits at The Post with player prop bets over the past two seasons. Despite favoring long shots, his return on investment stands at 30.15 percent since 2022.
