ChromeOS 134 preview teases accessibility features, quick insert improvements

The upcoming ChromeOS update is set to be released soon, with the chromeOS.dev team sharing details of the features expected in the next version of the Chromebook operating system. The initial rollout of ChromeOS 134 is scheduled for Monday, March 17th, with additional features to follow at later dates.
The features previewed in the ChromeOS 134 developer notes showcase exciting improvements, including enhancements to Google’s Quick Insert feature, special enterprise functionalities, increased accessibility features, and tools for content management. Here’s a summary of what users can anticipate.
Slow Keys
ChromeOS 134 emphasizes its dedication to enhancing accessibility with each software update, and Slow Keys is a prime example of this commitment. This feature assists users who require more time and precision when typing by introducing a delay after a key press, ensuring accurate input. Slow Keys can be particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions affecting their fine motor skills.
A similar feature called Bounce Keys, included in ChromeOS 133, helps improve typing accuracy by ignoring repeated keystrokes.
Student Data Transfer
In March, ChromeOS 134 will introduce a data transfer feature for graduating students and users with .edu accounts. This tool enables the transfer of data from school-associated accounts to personal Gmail accounts, including content from Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail. School administrators can deploy the tool to users and provide notifications and reminders for seamless data migration.
GIFs with Quick Insert Support
ChromeOS 134 enhances the Quick Insert feature by allowing users to quickly insert GIFs into messages and documents without leaving the Quick Insert menu. Users can access Quick Insert via keyboard shortcuts, making GIF insertion more efficient and convenient.
Isolated Web Apps for Kiosk Mode
ChromeOS 134 introduces Isolated Web Apps (IWAs) support, offering secure app management for public-facing kiosks and digital signage displays. Administrators can securely manage and deploy content to devices through the Admin console, enhancing control and security for enterprise-level applications.
