Cher was unsure of future with Allman Brothers Band guitarist Gregg Allman, filed for divorce after 9 days of marriage: book

Cher reflects on her second marriage and the challenges she faced.

In her bestselling book, “Cher: The Memoir, Part One,” the singer shares insights into her relationship with Gregg Allman and why they rushed into marriage.

Cher’s divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized in June 1975, around the time she started dating Allman.

Despite uncertainties about the relationship, Cher found out she was pregnant and decided to marry Allman.

Cher, now 78, expressed her feelings about the situation, stating, “I was living each day as it came.” She emphasized the importance of doing what she felt was right at the time.

Following the wedding, Cher’s sister and friend were surprised by her decision to marry Allman so quickly, but Cher was determined to move forward.

After a brief marriage, Cher filed for divorce from Allman, but they later reconciled and had a son named Elijah Blue Allman. However, their relationship ultimately ended in 1979.

Cher’s decision to end the marriage came after witnessing Allman’s struggles with drug addiction, which had a significant impact on their relationship.

Despite Allman’s efforts to overcome his addiction, Cher reached a breaking point when his behavior became unsafe for their children.

Allman passed away in 2017 from liver cancer, and author Alan Paul revealed that he never stopped loving Cher, despite their tumultuous relationship.

Looking back, Paul noted that neither Cher nor Allman were fully prepared for the challenges they would face in their marriage, especially regarding Allman’s drug addiction.

The second part of Cher’s memoir is set to be released in 2025, offering further insights into her life and relationships.
