Bungie has officially announced that the Marathon gameplay reveal is scheduled for the 12th of April. This exciting news comes after their dedicated fans successfully completed an ARG to unveil the date of the reveal. Just imagine the anticipation if they hadn’t managed to solve it in time!

The gameplay reveal will be streamed at 6PM UK time / 7PM CEST / 1PM ET / 10AM PT. Bungie’s developers will showcase Marathon gameplay, along with providing news and updates about the game. As a teaser, here’s a trailer featuring a pink robot cat.

Marathon is Bungie’s first new project since Destiny, offering a PvPvE team-based extraction shooter experience set on the planet of Tau Ceti IV. Players will embody cybernetic mercenaries called Runners, navigating the harsh environment of the abandoned colony and its surroundings in search of loot, including new weapons and gear.

The game draws inspiration from Bungie’s 1994 FPS, also named Marathon, which was a Mac exclusive before expanding to PC with its sequel. The original game’s storyline revolved around a colony ship under attack by alien races, introducing themes of AI sentience and exploration of different planets. However, Marathon’s narrative will take a different approach, focusing on player-driven stories within a dynamic game world.

Game Director Christopher Barrett shared, “Marathon is designed as a PvP-focused game without a single-player campaign. Instead, players will create their own journey within a world of evolving zones, where every run offers unique experiences such as intense firefights and daring extractions.”

Marathon holds significant importance for Bungie, especially following challenges faced during the Destiny 2 era. The studio underwent layoffs and project cancellations post-Destiny 2: The Final Shape, raising concerns about their future. With uncertainties surrounding Destiny’s direction and the volatile nature of live service games, this gameplay reveal marks a crucial moment for Bungie.
