It has been nearly a decade since we last caught up with Bridget Jones on the silver screen. The third installment of the series, based on Helen Fielding’s novels, was titled Bridget Jones’s Baby and ended with Bridget finding happiness with her first child and husband Mark Darcy. However, as is typical in the Bridget Jones world, peace doesn’t last long. In Mad About the Boy, middle-aged Bridget (played by Renée Zellweger) finds herself back in the dating scene after Mark’s passing, juggling grief and single-parenting two children. She finds herself drawn to the charming 29-year-old Roxster (Leo Woodall) and also encounters a married teacher, Scott Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
The new Bridget Jones film is set to premiere just in time for Valentine’s Day, but if you’re looking to watch it at home, we’ve got you covered.
How to watch Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy now
The romantic comedy will debut in the UK on Thursday, 13 February 2025. Tickets can be booked through Vue, Showcase, Odeon, or Cineworld websites.
Interestingly, the new Bridget Jones movie will not be shown in US cinemas. Previous films in the franchise didn’t perform well at the American box office, so Mad About the Boy will head straight to streaming platforms in the States.
Here is the trailer for the film:
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on VOD?
Universal Pictures, the distributor of the Renée Zellweger-led movie, has not disclosed the digital release date for Mad About the Boy. However, based on previous releases, we can make an estimate.
The timing will likely depend on the film’s box office performance. Last year’s flop, Fall Guy, was available for rent and purchase a month after its theatrical release, while the successful Wicked took 42 days to arrive on VOD.
Early indicators suggest that Mad About the Boy will be a hit in the UK. Vue’s Eduardo Leal mentioned that ticket pre-sales are higher than for Barbie.
It is probable that Universal will wait to release Mad About the Boy on VOD, with a potential digital release towards the end of March 2025.
The US digital release date is less certain due to the film’s different distribution strategy. However, it may follow a similar pattern to the UK release.
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
The timeline for physical copies of Universal Pictures movies varies. In the UK, Fall Guy was released on DVD and Blu-ray 63 days after its VOD premiere, while Wicked arrived after 66 days.
Therefore, we anticipate that copies of Mad About the Boy may be available in May 2025.
Keep in mind that this is an estimate, and we will update this article with any new information as it becomes available.
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on streaming services?
In the US, the Renée Zellweger-led movie will be on Peacock on Thursday, 13 February 2025.
However, the UK streaming release date is still unknown. Mad About the Boy will likely be available on Sky and Now, similar to Fall Guy, but Universal has not confirmed this yet.
If you’re in the UK, there is a way to subscribe to Peacock – check out our guide for more details.
