Shawn Levy discusses how Jennifer Garner’s joke about Ben Affleck in “Deadpool & Wolverine” came about.

During the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked Levy if he sought Affleck’s approval, to which Levy denied doing so.

“No, we vetted it with Jen,” the 56-year-old director explained regarding Garner’s quip about her ex-husband while reprising her role as Elektra.

In the Marvel movie, which premiered last month, Ryan Reynolds’ character expresses condolences over the death of Elektra’s love interest, Daredevil, played by Affleck.

Garner, 52, responds with a shrug and simply says, “It’s fine.”

Levy confirmed, “That joke, as far as I know, wasn’t vetted by Ben.”

However, he noted, “I later spoke with Ben because … the end credits have this tribute reel to the legacy of Marvel movies and so that gave us the occasion to speak to everyone because we needed and wanted everyone’s permission.”

Garner and Affleck, 51, met and fell in love while filming “Daredevil” in 2003.

The former couple wed two years later, going on to welcome three kids — Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12 — before finalizing their divorce in 2018.

Affleck moved on with Lopez, whom he was previously engaged to from 2002 to 2004, in 2021.

The “Gigli” co-stars sparked divorce speculation in May and have been living separately, with a source telling Page Six Monday that Lopez feels “furious” and “humiliated.”

The “Alias” alum gave a sneak peek at the intense training she underwent for her “Deadpool & Wolverine” role via Instagram Monday.

“I was fit but not @marvel fit,” Garner captioned the video. “My bestie and OG stunt double [and I] … had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies.”

In the footage, the “13 Going on 30” star boxed, lifted weights, jumped on trampolines and spun swords.
