Battlefield 2042 adds five specialists in wake of beta feedback

EA/DICE conducted a beta program for Battlefield 2042 earlier this month, analyzing the results and feedback to make informed decisions moving forward. The beta allowed players to experience the game’s 128 player battles on the Orbital map set in French Guiana, showcasing both team and squad play.

One of the major changes in ‘2042’ was the introduction of Specialists, replacing the traditional character class system. While the developers claim it is an evolution of the class system, some players felt it did not promote the same level of teamwork seen in previous Battlefield games.

EA/DICE believes that perceptions will change with the unveiling of all ten Specialists, offering a variety of abilities and traits. The first five covered traditional roles like Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon, with additional loadout flexibility. The new Specialists, doubling player choices, are detailed in the embedded video below.

  • Navi Rao – recon, specializing in cyber warfare and Trojan network trait
  • Santiago “Dozer” Espinoza – assault, with ballistic shield and blast resistant trait
  • Emma “Sundance” Rosier – assault, with smart explosives and wingsuit trait
  • Ji-Soo Paik – recon, with hostile locations scanner and threat perception trait
  • Constantin “Angel” Anghel – support, with loadout crate and trauma specialist trait

The dedicated Battlefield 2042 specialists page has been updated with all the new Specialists for reference.

Following the beta, EA/DICE has implemented significant changes based on user feedback, focusing on UI, maps, movement system, mission points, accessibility, and technical adjustments.

The developers assure beta testers that full game loadouts will be customizable and more specialized hardware will be available as players progress.
