Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to receive full cross-platform multiplayer and progression, a new photo mode, and a new subclass for all 12 character classes, including a Drunken Master Monk. These updates will be included in Patch 8, expected to be released in 2025. Before the official release, a stress testing phase will be conducted by Larian to address any potential issues.

The stress testing for Patch 8 is anticipated to begin in early January, with further details to be provided in the upcoming Community Update post. This approach aims to minimize the need for immediate hot fixes post-launch.

Despite Larian’s initial plans to move away from major feature updates for Baldur’s Gate 3, there are still several enhancements on the horizon. The addition of cross-platform multiplayer, photo mode, and new subclasses was previously mentioned, but the introduction of new subclasses comes as a pleasant surprise.

The cross-platform multiplayer feature, also known as cross-play, will enable players on PS5, PC, Mac, and Xbox to team up using the Larian Network, similar to the system used in Divinity: Original Sin 2. Additionally, cross-platform progression will allow players to seamlessly switch between console and computer platforms.

Furthermore, Patch 8 will introduce a comprehensive Photo Mode that offers a wide range of customization options. Players can access this mode through the game’s HUD or controller inputs, allowing for creative control over character positioning, poses, party composition, and even the inclusion of summons and Wild Shapes.

The Photo Mode will include various settings for lenses, scenes, post-processing, frames, stickers, and more. Players can adjust parameters such as field of view, exposure, depth of field, color grading, and add decorative elements like frames and stickers to enhance their screenshots.

Additionally, the update will introduce 12 new character subclasses, each offering unique abilities and playstyles. Here is a brief overview of some of the new subclasses:

Bard – College of Glamour

As a College of Glamour Bard, players can heal allies and control enemies with abilities like Mantle of Inspiration and Mantle of Majesty.

Barbarian – Path of Giants

The Path of Giants Barbarian gains increased strength and size, allowing for powerful attacks and increased carrying capacity.

Cleric – Death Domain

Clerics of the Death Domain utilize necrotic spells and can manipulate corpses to damage enemies.
