Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena Were Separated Before His Tragic Death

According to a recent report from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena had been separated for four months before his untimely passing.

“Jeffrey Baena was separated from his wife [redacted] since September 2024 when she moved to New York,” the report, released on Wednesday, states.

Authorities spoke to Plaza on the phone on Jan. 3, and she confirmed the separation.

In October 2024, Baena made concerning remarks, prompting his wife to call a friend for a welfare check. Baena had been attending therapy since then and had difficulty sleeping.

Plaza confirmed the separation to the police.

Baena died by suicide on Jan. 3 at the age of 47. The official cause and manner of death were detailed in the report.

The public was unaware of Plaza and Baena’s separation. The couple had secretly married in 2020.

Plaza described Baena’s death as an “unimaginable tragedy” and asked for privacy during that time.
