Apple AI Siri Upgrade Release Set for iOS 19

Apple’s highly anticipated AI Siri overhaul, which has been delayed multiple times, is expected to finally arrive on the latest iPhones later this year, as per a recent report.
The New York Times has shed light on Apple’s current struggles with AI, particularly Apple Intelligence. Allegedly, the company is facing challenges such as political conflicts, cost-cutting measures, and talent attrition.
Despite an executive reshuffle that resulted in the departure of former Siri lead John Giannandrea, the report indicates that Apple’s enhanced AI Siri is still on track for a release this year, with a specific autumn launch timeframe mentioned.
While the report does not provide specific details, it suggests that the new AI Siri could be released alongside iOS 19 in September or shortly thereafter, considering that autumn spans September, October, and November in the Northern Hemisphere.
Why this new AI Siri release date is a positive
The revelation of this new launch window can be viewed as positive news. Just last month, Apple had announced that the improved Siri would be available “within the coming year,” leading many to speculate that it might not arrive until early 2026. Clarification that Apple intended to release it within the current calendar year is seen as progress.
Initially planned for launch shortly after iOS 18, the new Siri was a key selling point for the iPhone 16 range before being delayed and revamped. Reports suggest that Apple encountered challenges with the accuracy of the new Siri assistant, with nearly a third of requests receiving inaccurate responses.
What will the new Siri be able to do?
The new Siri infused with Apple Intelligence is expected to be significantly more contextually aware than its predecessor. It should have the ability to work seamlessly across apps and analyze on-screen content. Users will be able to follow up on previous interactions with Siri without repeating context and directly control specific app functions.
This update is a much-needed enhancement for the original smartphone personal assistant, which has lagged behind competitors like Google Assistant and Gemini since its launch in 2011.
