The Apple Store in Turin is placed in Via Roma in the center of the city.

A recent analysis by app intelligence provider Appfigures revealed that Apple’s U.S. App Store generated over $10 billion in revenue last year.

The analysis shows a significant increase in U.S. App Store revenue from commissions, more than doubling between 2020 and 2024. Apple’s share of App Store commissions grew from approximately $4.76 billion in 2020 to over $10.1 billion in 2024.

According to Appfigures’ data, U.S. App Store developers earned $33.68 billion in gross revenue from their apps and games in 2024, taking home $23.57 billion after Apple’s share.

Despite Apple not publicly disclosing its App Store revenue, Appfigures’ analysis contradicted Apple’s own report. The discrepancy is due to Apple merging App Store revenue with revenue generated outside the App Store to showcase the App Store’s significance in the economy.

Apple’s recent legal battle with Epic Games has led to changes in its App Store rules, allowing developers to link out to external purchases without commissions. This move has been welcomed by developers like Spotify, Amazon Kindle, and Patreon.

Apple is appealing the court decision, claiming it will cause “grave irreparable harm.” However, many developers believe Apple should have reduced commissions for all developers, not just small businesses.

Appfigures’ analysis also revealed that U.S. App Store revenue from apps and games in 2024 totaled approximately $6.28 billion and $3.83 billion, respectively.

Overall, the figures highlight the importance of App Store revenue to Apple’s bottom line and its efforts to maintain control over the platform.
