Following Yuzu shutdown, Nintendo casually swats over 8,500 copies of the Switch emulator in one go

Nintendo Switch emulator Ryujinx has reportedly halted development and been taken offline, following alleged contact from Nintendo itself.

This development comes after the shutdown of another Switch emulator – Yuzu – earlier this year, where Nintendo took legal action resulting in a settlement that required Yuzu’s creator to cease the project.

After users noticed errors on Ryujinx’s Github and download pages, a message from developer riperiperi on the emulator’s Discord server, shared by Ryujinx’s Twitter account, shed light on the situation.

“Yesterday, [Ryujinx’s lead developer] gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and offered an agreement to cease working on the project and remove all related assets,” the message stated. “The organization has been removed while awaiting confirmation, indicating the likely outcome.”

Further updates reveal that Ryujinx’s Patreon page and website homepage remain accessible despite the removal of other pages. Media outlets like The Verge and Kotaku have reached out to Nintendo for comment, but the company has remained silent on the matter.

Attempts to obtain a statement from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which represents Nintendo, also resulted in no comment regarding the situation. The ESA did provide a general statement on copyright piracy.
