Angelina Jolie shuts down question about Brad Pitt divorce
Angelina Jolie has set “firm boundaries” and chose not to discuss her divorce from Brad Pitt in a recent interview.
Even though the iconic Hollywood couple split eight years ago, Jolie is still navigating what to share about her divorce. She mentioned, “You could have this messy private process and the work spoke,” referring to “old Hollywood” during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in mid-August. “Now, the audience’s relationship is different.”
During the interview at her home in Los Angeles, Jolie was asked about discussing the details of her divorce from Pitt, but she maintained her stance.
“No,” she firmly told the reporter. Jolie and Pitt were married from 2014 until she filed for divorce in 2016, and their divorce proceedings are ongoing after eight years.
She revealed that she remains in Los Angeles only because of her divorce from Pitt.
“I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” Jolie explained, referring to their children. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety.”
Jolie, who shares six children with Pitt – Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, along with twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 – then expressed that Los Angeles no longer holds the same significance for her as it once did.
“I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here,” she confessed.
Once her youngest children are independent, Jolie plans to travel the world and visit her loved ones. “I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she shared. “I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
Jolie’s latest film, “Maria,” premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on Thursday, strategically avoiding any potential encounters with Pitt, who is also attending events abroad.
“Angelina will be [here] on the first day, on Thursday, and she will leave right after with [‘Maria’ director] Pablo Larraín,” Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera revealed to Vanity Fair before the festival.
“So Brad will arrive only on Saturday, to Venice,” he added. “There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido [island where the fest takes place].”
In “Maria,” Jolie portrays the late opera singer Maria Callas. To prepare for the role, she underwent “many months” of singing classes.
“Months of just getting the singing down and then the Italian classes and then the voice and doing all these things like her,” Jolie shared during the interview with THR. “You try to be precise.”
Meanwhile, Pitt will be at the film festival this weekend to premiere his and George Clooney’s film “Wolfs” on September 1.
