Andrey Rublev hits himself with racket in Wimbledon meltdown

During his first-round match at Wimbledon against Francisco Comesana, Andrey Rublev once again struggled to control his temper.

After his return went out of play in the third set, the Russian started violently smashing his racket against his knee.

The outburst began immediately when the ball went out of bounds, causing Rublev to hit his knee and sustain some injury.

Unfortunately, Rublev couldn’t recover from this moment and ended up losing the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Following the match, Rublev explained that he hit his racket on his knee because damaging the grass at Wimbledon is against the rules.

“I wouldn’t have done it if I could hit the racket on the floor,” he told reporters. “Since we’re not allowed to hit it on the grass, I couldn’t contain my emotions at that moment. But everything is fine now.”

This incident comes just a month after a similar outburst during the French Open, where Rublev smashed a racket on his knee, kicked a metal bench, and screamed in frustration.

Rublev admitted that his reaction was not the best way to handle his emotions.

“Of course, I didn’t behave today as in Paris, but still, I could have done much better,” he told the Daily Mail.

“This is not the way. Of course, the main priority is to remain positive throughout the entire match.”
