Albedo takes Earth observation up close and personal from very low Earth orbit

Albedo, a satellite imagery startup, is gearing up for its highly anticipated launch into orbit.

The company’s first satellite, Clarity, is set to launch next spring, equipped with ultra-high-resolution cameras that aim to revolutionize the commercial Earth observation industry.

Scheduled to ride on SpaceX’s Transporter-13 mission to very low Earth orbit (VLEO), Albedo’s Clarity is expected to be operational by next year.

Albedo has already secured seven customers, including SkyFi and Open Grid Europe, who have reserved image tasking services from Clarity.

CEO Topher Haddad highlighted the complexity and power of Albedo’s spacecraft, capable of capturing unprecedented high-resolution imagery in VLEO.

The company plans to offer 10-centimeter-per-pixel images at competitive prices due to its innovative satellite design and technology.

Albedo’s satellites, the size of refrigerators, will utilize advanced electric propulsion and design strategies to counteract atmospheric drag in VLEO.

With the addition of Kathryn Tobey, a former Lockheed Martin executive, to its board, Albedo strengthens its expertise in high-performance imaging satellites and national security customer relationships.
