Age of Empires II & Age of Mythology are coming to PS5 this spring.

Exciting news for PlayStation 5 players as Microsoft expands its cross-platform offerings with the arrival of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold on the console.

Age of Mythology: Retold is set to release on PS5 on 4th March, followed by the launch of Age of Empires II: DE later this spring.

Joining the PS5 release is the Immortal Pillars expansion for Age of Mythology: Retold, which draws inspiration from Chinese culture and mythology. The expansion introduces 12 new gods such as Fuxi, Shennong, Nüwa, Gonggong, and Zhurong, a 9-level campaign, new mythical units, and 7 new maps.

Immortal Pillars is included in the Age of Mythology: Retold Premium Edition, offering early access to the game on PS5 from 27th February.

This is a significant time for fans of the Age of Empires series, with Microsoft reviving and expanding the classic RTS games with remasters, remakes, and a new entry in Age of Empires 4. The remastered editions are not just definitive versions but also feature new expansions, campaigns, and factions. Additionally, multiple expansions are planned for Age of Empires 4 later this year.

Microsoft’s World’s Edge team has collaborated closely with the fan-founded team at Forgotten Empires for these projects. Immortal Pillars has been developed by Virtuos Games and Tantalus Media.

However, the expansion of the Age of Empires series has not been without challenges. With attention and resources spread thin across multiple projects, it was recently announced that further DLC for Age of Empires 3 has been cancelled due to premature announcements.
