After conquering Sonic, the third film's writers would love to have a go at making a Zelda movie based on a once divisive entry in the series

The team behind Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has demonstrated their ability to create a successful video game movie, and now the writers have expressed interest in working on a Zelda movie.

It may come as a surprise, but Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (the movie adaptation, not the game) has been well-received, despite the franchise’s mixed history. The film effectively translated the quirky storyline from Sonic Adventure 2, defying expectations. This success gives confidence that the team could handle other game adaptations, as revealed by the film’s writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller in an interview with IGN. They mentioned their interest in adapting more games, including another Sega title.

“We’ve talked about Golden Axe,” Casey said. “Golden Axe was another good Genesis multiplayer game.” Miller suggested A Boy and His Blob, with Casey adding a more unconventional choice, “the 7-Up game about the dot having a platforming adventure,” referring to Cool Spot, a platformer starring the red dot from the 7-Up Logo. However, their most serious suggestion revolved around a Zelda adaptation.

“I think another easy one I think we can answer because the movie’s already happening and we’re already not doing it would be a Zelda,” Miller shared. “I remember always when we played Wind Waker, we were always like, man, I mean, it would probably be weird if they made a Zelda movie to start with Wind Waker versus the more classic Hyrule. But we both loved Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. Yeah. So after they make this Zelda movie, I guess we’re putting it out there in the world, maybe we can do a Wind Waker spin-off.”

Choosing Wind Waker for adaptation is intriguing, considering its history of being a divisive title among Zelda fans due to its cel-shaded graphics. Despite this, the game is now appreciated for its visual style. While Nintendo is working on a live-action adaptation, it’s uncertain if it will focus on Wind Waker (hopefully not Wand of Gamelon).
