Adams says New Yorkers don't really care about probes into City Hall, NYPD

Mayor Eric Adams Downplays Concerns Over Federal Probes and Resignations

Mayor Eric Adams dismissed concerns raised by reporters about federal probes targeting City Hall and NYPD officials, as well as the resignations of key aides, during his weekly news conference. He claimed that everyday New Yorkers do not seem to be overly worried about these issues as they have not expressed their concerns to him directly. Adams attributed the media for exaggerating these matters.

Despite his initial dismissal of the public’s concerns, Adams later acknowledged that New Yorkers might have some level of interest in the scandals but emphasized that they are more focused on issues like safety, education, housing, and employment.

Several of Adams’ allies, including Deputy Mayor Phil Banks, former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, and others, have been linked to potential corruption probes. While acknowledging that the scandals are concerning, Adams reiterated that the public’s primary concerns revolve around day-to-day matters affecting their lives.

During the news conference, Adams also defended his aides and avoided addressing questions about the ongoing controversies, stating that he does not want to be distracted by repetitive inquiries.

Despite calls for the ouster of certain officials involved in the scandals, Adams did not provide any details about his private conversations with his chief counsel, Lisa Zornberg, who recently resigned. He also acknowledged The Post’s editorial board’s demand to fire certain individuals but expressed his belief in their understanding of working-class people’s perspectives.

Adams concluded by emphasizing that while he may not always agree with The Post’s opinions, he respects their viewpoint and appreciates their recognition of his efforts in certain areas.
