Accused in U.K. knife attack that killed 3 girls pleads guilty to murder – National
A British teen admitted to murdering three girls and trying to kill 10 others in a meticulously planned stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in England. The attacker, Axel Rudakubana, 18, entered guilty pleas as his trial was about to begin in Liverpool Crown Court.
The incident caused widespread shock and sparked anti-immigrant violence across the country due to misinformation about the attacker. The government announced an independent public inquiry into the attack, which was carried out by a U.K.-born teenager with a history of reported troubling behavior.
The stabbings, which took place on July 29, resulted in a week of rioting in parts of England and Northern Ireland. The attacker, falsely identified as an asylum-seeker, was actually born in Wales to Rwandan parents.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed the nation’s trauma over the incident and emphasized the need for answers on how the state failed to protect the victims. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced a public inquiry to uncover the truth and address necessary changes.
Rudakubana was referred to the government’s anti-extremism program when he was younger but managed to evade detection despite being in contact with various state agencies. The attack occurred during a dance class at the Hart Space, turning a day of joy into a nightmare as Rudakubana carried out his meticulously planned rampage.
Prosecutors highlighted Rudakubana’s sustained interest in death and violence, although the motive behind his actions remains unclear. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and possession of dangerous weapons.

Rudakubana remained silent in court but admitted guilt when presented with the charges. He faces life imprisonment, with his defense lawyer planning to address his mental health during sentencing.
An investigation revealed Rudakubana’s interest in conflict and terrorism, leading to additional charges related to possession of dangerous substances and extremist material.
The surviving victims and families of the deceased were not present in court during the plea hearing. Justice Julian Goose apologized on their behalf for their absence and Rudakubana’s guilty pleas.
Rudakubana admitted to the murders of three young girls and the attempted murder of several others. The attack left a lasting impact on the community and raised questions about the failure of authorities to prevent such a tragedy.
While the motive for the attack remains unknown, police ruled out terrorism as a factor. The incident led to widespread unrest and violence in various parts of the country, with many individuals arrested and sentenced for their involvement.
