A Xenoblade Chronicles X speedrunner set a world record no one will ever be able to beat, and it’s all Nintendo’s fault

A speedrunner of Xenoblade Chronicles X achieved a new world record just before Nintendo closed down the Wii U’s online servers, marking it as the final record ever set on the platform.

Last month, Nintendo made the decision to shut down its online servers for the Wii U and 3DS, rendering many games unplayable and online modes inaccessible. Xenoblade Chronicles X was one such game affected by the server shutdown, leaving players unable to access its online features. Despite being a lesser-known title in the RPG series, fans are hopeful for a potential Switch port in the future. Prior to the server shutdown, speedrunner YMG-C managed to complete one last run of the game’s online mode, setting a new world record in the process. This achievement was shared by a fan on Twitter, as reported by GamesRadar.

With the Wii U’s servers now offline, YMG-C holds the world record for the Xenoblade Chronicles X online mode speedrun, which can never be beaten. Their new record of two hours and 56 minutes surpasses their previous time of two hours and 57 minutes. Even if the game receives a Switch port, speedrun categories will vary across platforms, introducing discrepancies in factors like load times due to the Wii U’s outdated technology.

While a Xenoblade Chronicles X port remains uncertain, the series continues with new entries like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 released in 2022 and subsequent DLC, ensuring a future for the franchise within Nintendo’s gaming lineup.
