A website for a mysterious new Pokemon-focused company has cropped up, and it sounds like it'll be doing more than just making games

A new Pokemon project called The Pokemon Works is currently in development, but details are scarce at the moment.

Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company established a new subsidiary named The Pokemon Works, which appears to be situated in the same building as ILCA, the studio responsible for Pokemon Home and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The purpose of The Pokemon Works was initially unclear, but an official website has now been launched, shedding some light on the situation – albeit limited. According to a machine translation, The Pokemon Works is primarily focused on services like Pokemon Home, which aligns with its proximity to ILCA, and also on creating games within the Pokemon franchise. However, specific details about the games in development are not yet known.

The website’s about section features a message from the studio head, Takuya Iwasaki, a developer known for titles like Nier, Drakengard, and Sand Land. However, specific details beyond this are currently unavailable. The message emphasizes the idea of Pokemon as companions and the goal of creating realistic and accessible Pokemon experiences, which may come across as standard corporate messaging. As of now, there seems to be no direct link to the recent Game Freak leak, so further announcements are awaited.

Besides the mentioned leak, the year has been relatively quiet for Pokemon. While the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus was announced in February, there have been no updates since then, and no information on the tenth generation of games. It’s possible that Game Freak is taking a more cautious approach following the mixed reception to Scarlet and Violet, which faced technical issues at launch and criticism for an empty open world. Fans are hopeful that the next Pokemon project will recapture the magic of the series.
