A massive Game Freak data breach has seemingly revealed the Switch 2's codename, future Pokémon games, and a whole lot more

Pokemon developer Game Freak has experienced a significant hack, resulting in the leak of substantial behind-the-scenes information, including the codename for the Switch 2.

As reported by IGN, a considerable amount of leaked data from Game Freak was shared over the weekend in an unprecedented hack of the company. While the authenticity of the leak contents was initially unclear, Game Freak later confirmed that a data breach had occurred in August of this year. The leaked information includes details on various Pokemon games and 2606 cases of employee details, encompassing current, former, and contract staff.

Game Freak has issued an apology to all those affected and stated that the hacked server has been rebuilt and inspected. Although the statement does not address the leaked information about past and future games, acknowledging the breach may lend credibility to these revelations.

One of the significant revelations from the leak is the alleged codename for the successor to the Nintendo Switch, referred to as “Ounce.” Codenames for a yet-to-be-announced 10th generation of Pokemon games have also surfaced, along with mentions of other unannounced Pokemon titles. Additionally, a vast amount of development notes, concept art, and details have been shared – extending beyond what can be summarized here.

This year has been relatively quiet for The Pokemon Company, with only one Pokemon Presents event held back in February, unveiling Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the latest installment in the Legends series set in the Kalos region of the 6th generation. Typically, a Pokemon Presents event is held in August, but it was notably absent this year.
