LA Times owner rips ex-CNN star Oliver Darcy as ‘so-called reporter’ during interview about Scott Jennings
The Los Angeles Times Owner Ends Interview with Reporter
The billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Times abruptly ended an interview with reporter Oliver Darcy after being pressed about his decision to hire pro-Trump commentator Scott Jennings for the editorial board. Darcy, a former CNN journalist, reported that the conversation became combative and was cut short by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong.
Soon-Shiong had recently blocked the publication of an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by the editorial board, causing resignations and subscription cancellations. Both Soon-Shiong and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos have expressed a desire to diversify their newspapers’ editorial boards by including more right-leaning voices.
During the interview, Soon-Shiong defended his decision to bring Jennings on board, stating that he wanted a balanced representation of opinions. Darcy challenged Jennings’ credibility, leading to a heated exchange that resulted in the interview being abruptly ended.
The Post has reached out to both Darcy and Soon-Shiong for further comment on the incident.
