Jordanian authorities have reported that they have shot and killed a man who opened fire on a police patrol near the Israeli Embassy, resulting in three police officers being injured.

The incident took place early on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in the Rabiah neighborhood of Amman, the capital of Jordan.

The Jordanian Public Security Directorate released a statement stating that a man was shooting in the area, prompting the police to pursue the shooter.

“He was chased and surrounded, and he started firing gunshots at the security force. In response, the security force applied the rules of engagement, resulting in the death of the perpetrator,” the statement read.

The identity of the shooter has not been disclosed.

Israel and Jordan have had a peace agreement since 1994. Tensions between the two countries have been heightened due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has caused devastation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon.
