Don Gaetz revealed to Politico that he and his wife were caught off guard by the news, only finding out when Matt called to inform them about the nomination.

Don Gaetz, 76, mentioned that Matt was not actively seeking the position and that the nomination came as a surprise. The news of Gaetz’s nomination sparked criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, with doubts about his confirmation.
