Final Cut Pro 11 Finally Unlocks Spatial Video Editing, But Lacks Vision Pro Preview

Apple has announced the release of Final Cut Pro 11, a major update that now supports editing spatial videos captured with Vision Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, or later.

The latest version of Final Cut Pro allows users to adjust the left- and right-eye angles on their Mac display, as well as add effects, color correction, and titles to spatial videos.

With the Mac Virtual Display feature, users can now edit spatial videos captured with Vision Pro directly on Vision Pro for a seamless editing experience.

While the increased virtual screen space enhances workflow organization, editing spatial videos with Final Cut Pro 11 and Vision Pro remains a primarily 2D experience, albeit on a larger scale.

One limitation is the inability to preview spatial videos in-headset while editing, which means there is no 3D window within Final Cut Pro for stereoscopic rendering.

However, edited spatial videos can be exported directly to the user’s Photos library for immediate viewing on Vision Pro, even though real-time preview during editing is not currently supported.

Apple is also introducing expanded Mac Virtual Display options, allowing users to enlarge the display to a 32:9 ultra-wide curved format, resembling two 5K monitors side by side.

The panoramic Mac Virtual Display feature is currently in beta and can be easily downloaded to enhance the editing experience, especially for working on spatial videos with Final Cut Pro 11.
