Apple Releases Long-awaited Panoramic Display Feature on Vision Pro in 2.2 Beta

Apple has rolled out early access to the much-anticipated panoramic display feature for Vision Pro’s Mac Virtual Display. This update, available through visionOS 2.2 beta release, introduces three virtual screen sizes to enhance the user experience.

Initially introduced with Vision Pro in February, Mac Virtual Display offered only a single virtual screen size, albeit enabling users to have multiple app windows open simultaneously.

Expectations were high for Apple to unveil the new ‘Wide’ and ‘Ultrawide’ display formats for Mac Virtual Display during last month’s online Mac product event. Now, as reported by MacRumors, visionOS 2.2 beta is live, providing Vision Pro users with the coveted wider screen real estate.

During the feature’s announcement in June, Apple described the update as offering an “ultra-wide display that wraps around you,” providing resolutions equivalent to two 4K monitors placed side by side. Additionally, Mac-side dynamic foveated rendering ensures content remains sharp regardless of where you look, according to Apple.

While the exact release date of visionOS 2.2 to the stable branch remains unknown, it is speculated to coincide with the next ‘X.2’ updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS Sequoia, watchOS, and tvOS, as suggested by MacRumors.

In the meantime, to join the visionOS 2.2 beta program, follow these simple steps:

Updating Vision Pro via OTA updates

  1. Sign in to the Apple Developer Center with your Apple ID and accept the Terms of Service.
  2. Put on Vision Pro, navigate to Settings General > Software Update > Beta Updates, and opt for the developer beta option.
  3. Once a new developer beta is available, install it through Software Update.
  4. Upon completion, you will have access to the new ‘Wide’ and ‘Ultrawide’ display options when connected to your Mac.
