Only One PSVR 2 Game Confirmed for PS5 Pro Enhancements at Launch, VR Performance Patch Expected Later

PlayStation 5 Pro Launching on November 7th

PlayStation 5 Pro is set to launch on November 7th with a price tag of $700. Sony has announced over 50 games that will receive day-one enhancements, with only one PSVR 2 title confirmed so far to get a launch day bump: Kayak VR: Mirage from Better Than Life.

Enhanced VR Experience

The expectation is that PS5 Pro will improve the performance of all PSVR 2 titles, allowing for higher frame rates and potentially eliminating the need for reprojection. This is made possible by the console’s new GPU, which boasts 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console, along with 28% faster memory. Additionally, the new Playstation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) AI-driven upscaling feature is expected to enhance visuals.

Future Enhancements

While PSSR won’t be available for VR games at launch, a patch specifically for PSVR 2 game developers is expected to be released in the future, as stated by Sony’s lead PlayStation system architect Mark Cerny in an interview with CNET back in September.

Game Enhancements

Kayak VR: Mirage is the only VR game confirmed to have the ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ badge, indicating that it will benefit from the increased horsepower of the console. Other PSVR 2-supported titles listed for launch day include No Man’s Sky from Hello Games, and Capcom’s Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4, although it’s unclear if their VR modes will see any enhancements.

Third-Party Support

Several third-party VR games have pledged eventual enhancements for PS5 Pro, including cyubeVR from Stonebrick Studios, and upcoming titles Arken Age from VitruviusVR and Subside from A2D Software.
